The Plot
At the tender age of 9 years old, twin brothers Lucas and Paul lose both their parents to tragedy and find themselves at the mercy of the foster care system. Lucas finds it especially difficult to trust the strangers caring for him when it becomes clear that he has face blindness - a neurological condition which means he cannot recognise them by their faces. The only person he trusts now is Paul - so they escape together to grow up on the streets, pulling small time scams to survive.
By the time they are adults, they have become the consummate criminal duo. Lucas is the brains and Paul the brawn. Paul helps Lucas figure out who people are by whispering in his ear, but despite this limitation they have earned a fearsome reputation. However, in the midst of their success, Lucas is not doing well. He is becoming more and more withdrawn, barely leaving the house, speaking only to Paul. Paul tries to convince him to get help, even finding him a therapist (Cosette) who recommends hallucinogenic group therapy, but Lucas refuses to go anywhere near a medical setting. In desperation, Paul recruits a third team member to help with their upcoming heist - Casey, whom he meets in Cosette’s waiting room.
The job goes well enough, but Paul never returns home. Instead, he turns up unconscious in hospital. Both Casey and the money are nowhere to be found. What’s worse, the money’s previous owner, a dangerous drug lord (Caspar) gives Lucas 48 hours to get the money back, or Paul will be killed in his bed.
Through Cosette, Lucas tracks Casey to an hallucinogenic psychotherapy weekend retreat. He realises his only option is to to infiltrate Cosette’s group therapy session and figure out which one is Casey without giving himself away. Along the way he will meet other people with highly unusual (possibly psychogenic) conditions like his, and he might even accidentally get some therapy for himself - but will he even be able to identify Casey when he finds him? Will Casey see him coming and strike first in his own patented violent psychopathic style? And will he be too late to save Paul?
